The facility was commissioned in 2001 and uses natural gas to produce electric energy. Hanford is strategically located in a resource-constrained area and is a flexible peaking facility with quick-start capabilities that provides reliable back up to numerous intermittent resources. A Power Purchase Agreement is in place through 2022 with Pacific Gas & Electric.
