Extraction and Transmission

AltaGas' extraction assets include interests in six of the 10 extraction plants in Canada, and are strategically located straddling high-volume pipeline transmission systems that transport natural gas to end markets. These extraction plants reprocess the gas, recovering residual ethane and natural gas liquids (NGLs) from the natural gas system.

AltaGas' transmission pipelines provide natural gas and condensate transportation services between processors and distribution systems, end-users or other downstream pipelines. We own and operate six transmission pipelines within the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin (WCSB) - five for transportation of natural gas and one for shipping condensate.

All of our extraction and transmission facilities are long-life assets underpinned by long-term contracts with little exposure to commodity price risk. They contribute to stable, long-term cash flows.

A look at AltaGas' Extraction and Transmission segment:

  • The most diverse extraction player in Canada, with interests in the largest number of plants over the widest geographic area including interests in the Edmonton Ethane Extraction Plant, Joffre Ethane Extraction Plant in central Alberta, Harmattan Complex northwest of Calgary, two Empress facilities in southeast Alberta and the Younger Plant in northeast B.C.
  • Excellent pipeline network with high reliability
  • Opportunities exist to expand current facilities and continue to build upon synergies with other business segments, including Energy Services that ships natural gas supplies through AltaGas' extraction plants, and Power Generation, which supplies Extraction and Transmission's internal electrical demand requirements
