Vice President Corporate Affairs
Gregory Aarssen was appointed Vice President Corporate Affairs in January 2008. Mr. Aarssen is responsible for public policy, federal and provincial government relations, in addition to external corporate communications and investor relations. Prior to this role Mr. Aarssen was Divisional Vice President Energy Management from January 2007. He joined AltaGas as Vice President, Premstar Energy Canada Limited Partnership in October 2004. Prior to joining AltaGas, Mr. Aarssen held various senior management positions at ECNG Energy, Energistics Group, NovaGas Clearinghouse, Enron and Union Gas Ltd., and has more than 22 years of natural gas and energy marketing experience. Mr. Aarssen holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Western Ontario, a MBA from the University of Windsor, and a law degree from the University of Windsor.
President and Chief Operating Officer
Richard Alexander was appointed President and Chief Operating Officer in January 2008. From January 2007 to January 2008 he held the title of Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Alexander joined AltaGas in May 2006 as Senior Vice President Finance and Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Alexander has served in senior positions with a number of large oil and gas companies in Toronto and Calgary, most recently as Vice President Finance. He has his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, is a CMA (Society of Management Accountants), a member of the Society of Financial Analysts and has a Bachelor of Business Management from Ryerson University in Toronto.
Vice President Renewable Energy - Wind
Nancy Anderson was appointed Vice President Renewable Energy - Wind in December 2008. In this capacity, Ms. Anderson is responsible for developing AltaGas' wind power portfolio in Western Canada and the Western United States. Prior to this role, Ms. Anderson was Vice President Business Development from June 2005, after joining AltaGas as Divisional Vice President Power Services in March 2002. Ms. Anderson has over 20 years of energy industry experience, both in reservoir engineering and power and gas marketing. Prior to joining AltaGas, Ms. Anderson held the position of Senior Vice President with El Paso Merchant Energy Canada and was responsible for Canadian operations. Prior to that, she held several management and engineering positions including two years at Pan Energy and nine years at Shell Canada.
Vice President and Treasurer
Jeremy Baines joined AltaGas in the role of Treasurer in July 2005. Prior to joining AltaGas, Mr. Baines spent six years in senior level roles in the treasury department at Agrium Inc. Prior to working in the treasury department, Mr. Baines spent a number or years working in various roles in business development and marketing at Agrium. In addition to holding an MBA from the University of Alberta, Mr. Baines has earned a Chartered Business Valuator (CBV) designation from the Canadian Institute of Chartered Business Valuators.
Senior Vice President Major Projects
James (Jim) Bracken was appointed Senior Vice President Major Projects in June 2007. Mr. Bracken joined AltaGas in November of 2004 as Divisional Vice President Gas Services and Energy Marketing, and has held a number of positions of increasing responsibility, most recently as Senior Vice President Energy Services and Power. Mr. Bracken is a Chartered Accountant with experience in the energy and energy consulting industries. He has held a variety of senior level marketing, operational and consulting jobs in Ontario and brings extensive knowledge of the Eastern Canada marketplace to AltaGas. He was most recently with Acres Management Consulting and spent several years in various senior positions at Union Gas Ltd.
Director, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
David Cornhill is a founding member of AltaGas Services Inc. He has served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer since AltaGas Services Inc.'s inception on April 1, 1994, and was appointed as a Director of AltaGas General Partner Inc. on April 29, 2004. Prior to forming AltaGas Services Inc., Mr. Cornhill served in the capacities of Vice President, Finance and Administration, and Treasurer at Alberta and Southern Gas Co. Ltd. from 1991 to 1993 and as President and Chief Operating Officer until March 31, 1994. Mr. Cornhill brings to the Board extensive oil and gas expertise in the natural gas processing and transportation industries.
Vice President General Counsel and Corporate Secretary
Dennis Dawson joined AltaGas as Associate General Counsel on August 1997, after consulting with AltaGas Services Inc. from July 1996. Effective July 1998, he became AltaGas' General Counsel and Corporate Secretary and effective December 1998, Mr. Dawson became Vice President General Counsel and Corporate Secretary. Mr. Dawson has over 20 years of oil and natural gas experience including nine years as General Counsel for Pan-Alberta Gas Ltd., a major Canadian natural gas marketing company.
Executive Vice President
Massimilano (Max) Fantuz was appointed Executive Vice President in January 2008. He joined AltaGas as President Premstar Energy Canada Limited Partnership in October 2004. Prior to joining AltaGas, Mr. Fantuz held various senior roles in engineering and energy management at Union Gas Ltd. and Premstar Energy Canada Ltd., and has more than 25 years of energy industry experience. Mr. Fantuz holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Windsor and is a member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario.
Vice President and Corporate Controller
Brad Mattson was appointed Vice President and Corporate Controller in January 2008. From October 2005, Mr. Mattson was the Chief Financial Officer of Taylor Gas Liquids Ltd. Mr. Mattson joined Taylor in 2001 as Controller and Vice President of Risk Management and was later promoted to Chief Financial Officer. Before joining Taylor, Mr. Mattson worked for Fluor Canada Ltd. for six years. Mr. Mattson graduated with a management degree from the University of Lethbridge and an MBA from Queen's University in Kingston.
President, AltaGas Utility Group
Patricia Newson has served as Chief Executive Officer of AltaGas Utility Group Inc. since its inception in 2005. Patricia Newson joined AltaGas Income Trust (then AltaGas Services Inc.) as Vice President Finance and Chief Financial Officer in June 1996. In 1998 Ms. Newson became Senior Vice President Finance and Chief Financial Officer of AltaGas. From September 1995 until joining AltaGas, Ms. Newson acted as Manager Strategic Planning at BC Hydro and Power Authority. Prior to this position, she worked for five years as an independent consultant to several businesses including BC Hydro and BC Gas Ltd. Her energy industry experience includes corporate and regulatory reporting during several restructurings with Gulf Canada, GW Utilities and Olympia and York Enterprises. Ms. Newson holds a B.Comm. (distinction) in accounting and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta.
Divisional Vice President Transmission
Marilyn Pfaefflin was appointed Divisional Vice President Transmission in June 2005. Ms. Pfaefflin served as Treasurer from August 1998 after consulting to AltaGas from May 1996. Prior to joining AltaGas, Ms. Pfaefflin was Manager of Finance and Assistant Treasurer for Alberta Natural Gas Company Ltd. from 1992 to 1996. Ms. Pfaefflin has more than 30 years of natural gas industry experience primarily related to natural gas processing and transportation.
Vice President Finance and Chief Financial Officer
Deborah Stein was appointed Vice President Finance and Chief Financial Officer in January 2008. Prior to this position she was Vice President Finance from January 2007. Ms. Stein joined AltaGas in January 2005 as Vice President Corporate Risk. In October 2005, Ms. Stein was appointed Vice President Controller of the Trust. From August 2005 to December 2006, Ms. Stein also held the position of Chief Financial Officer and Corporate Secretary of AltaGas Utility Group Inc. Prior to joining AltaGas, Ms. Stein held controllership, risk, audit, and investor relations roles, most recently with TransCanada Corporation. Ms. Stein has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from York University, is a Chartered Accountant, a Certified Financial Risk Manager and a Certified Public Accountant.
Vice President Corporate Resources
Kent Stout was appointed as Vice President Corporate Resources in September 2002. Mr. Stout joined AltaGas as Manager Human Resources in December 1998 and became Director Human Resources in December 1999. He has more than 20 years experience in human resource management and administration in the energy sector. Prior to joining AltaGas, Mr. Stout was employed for more than 10 years with Manalta Coal Ltd., then Canada's largest coal producer, where he held various positions, including Manager Human Resources and Administration.
President ECNG Energy LP
Bill Swan was appointed Divisional Vice President and Energy Management in January 2008. He has been the President of ECNG Energy since November 2003. Mr. Swan has experience in both the natural gas and electricity market. He has successfully managed a variety of companies and projects in Ontario and Alberta. Prior to joining ECNG, Mr. Swan was Director of Eastern Canada for Engage Energy. He successfully managed Engage's entry into the electricity market. Mr. Swan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from McMaster University.
Divisional Vice President Field Gathering and Processing and Energy Services
Randy Toone was appointed Divisional Vice President Field Gathering and Processing Operations in February 2009. He joined AltaGas as a Senior Operations Engineer in November 2003, and was appointed Operations Manager Extraction and Transmission in November 2004. Since January 2007, Mr. Toone served as Divisional Vice President Extraction and Transmission. Prior to joining AltaGas, Mr. Toone held various engineering management positions at Husky Energy, Petro-Canada and Williams Energy, and has more than 12 years of engineering experience in various capacities, including plant and operations. Mr. Toone holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Calgary.
Divisional Vice President Extraction and Transmission
David Tulk joined AltaGas in November 2009 as Divisional Vice President of Extraction and Transmission. Mr. Tulk has over 27 years of experience in project management, business development and commercial leadership related to the natural gas liquids and petrochemicals industries. Prior to joining AltaGas, he was the Vice President of NGLs for NOVA Chemicals. Mr. Tulk has a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) from the Royal Military College and served four years as a Combat Engineer Officer with the Canadian Armed Forces.
Executive Vice President Strategy and Corporate Development
David Wright was appointed Executive Vice President Strategy and Corporate Development in January 2008. Mr. Wright most recently served as Executive Vice President since January 2007. Prior to joining AltaGas, Mr. Wright served as Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of EPCOR and prior to that was a senior partner with a national Canadian law firm. Mr. Wright holds a law degree from the University of Calgary, Masters and Bachelor of Science degrees from the University of Manitoba and attended the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.
